Indeed, Land o Lakes Butter products are keto friendly. Most of the main Land o Lakes varieties will technically qualify as “keto approved”. One of the best options is the Land-o-Lakes Butter with Olive Oil and Sea Salt. Like most of the Land-o-Lakes butter “flavors”, they have 0 grams of carbohydrates, a good source of fat, and they are not processed with a bunch of unhealthy junk.
Of course we should discuss the fact that there exceptions.
Are ALL Land o Lakes Butters Keto Safe?
This depends on how strict you are. Are you strict keto or “dirty” keto? Are you following an actual ketogenic diet, or just low carb and trying to eat a little healthier?
For a rigid ketogenic diet where you are concerned with being kicked out of ketosis, yes, most Land o Lakes butters are fine, but they have a wide variety of products, and a few of them do have carbs/sugars.
One example of a Land-o-Lakes Butter that a keto conscious person should watch out for is the Honey Butter Spread. A mere tablespoon of this stuff is 4 grams of carbohydrates (all from sugar). This would add up quite quickly if you are not careful.
So we can’t reasonable consider a butter containing honey to be “keto friendly”, but this is not the only thing to consider when considering a healthy butter option.
Are Land-o-Lake Butters Healthy?
You already know this, but I will say it anyway. There’s more to eating healthy and following a low carb or ketogenic diet than simply cutting the carbs. There’s all kinds of junk in our food these days. Land-o-Lakes has another kind called “Butter with Canola Oil”. So what’s wrong with that? Technically it’s also zero carbs, and would therefore (depending who you ask) would be considered keto safe.
I may ruffle a few feathers here, as this is a debatable topic. Canola Oil has shown to be unsafe due to the levels of polyunsaturated fats. The reasons for this can be fairly technical. Read about the dangers of polyunsaturated fats (and therefore Canola Oil) here.
So, “Is Land-o-Lakes Butter Keto Friendly?”
I hate writing articles that basically say “it depends”, but unfortunately that’s how we need to end this one. However, it is definitely true that “most” of their products are indeed keto friendly.
Rather than list every single type of Land-o-Lakes Butters here and talk about their carb content, you can go to the actual Land-o-Lakes Website here. After all, who knows more about what’s in the product than the company that actually makes the stuff.
I was actually quite impressed with their level of detail and easy to read nutritional information. My main purpose here is to emphasize the fact that there is more to doing keto that just saying “well there’s no carbs in it, I guess it’s healthy!”
